At Des Moines Prep, parents are vital partners in their child’s education and essential members of our school community.

Helping students succeed takes more than preparation and careful planning within the classroom — it requires the active involvement and collaboration of families. That’s why we ensure that parents have the information, resources, and opportunities they need to be fully engaged in their child’s educational journey.

For us, transparency and communication are not just “nice to haves” but essential components of creating a positive and supportive learning environment. By maintaining open and consistent communication with parents, we can ensure that every student is set up for success. Regular updates on academic progress, behavioral issues, and school policies allow parents to offer the support needed for their child’s continued growth.

At Des Moines Prep, we ensure continuous, open communication with parents and families in several important ways:

  1. Dedicated Advisors
Each student is assigned a dedicated advisor for all four years of their time at Des Moines Prep. This allows parents to have a trusted point of contact throughout their child’s high school experience. Advisors not only keep families informed about academic progress but are also available to address any concerns or questions that may arise during the school year.
  2. Quarterly Report Card Pick-up Days
Every quarter, we host a parent report card pick-up day, where parents can schedule one-on-one meetings with their child’s advisor. This dedicated time allows for in-depth conversations about student progress, areas of improvement, and celebrations of success. These personalized check-ins ensure that parents are kept up to date and empowered to support their child’s continued growth.
  3. Regular Communication
We believe that communication shouldn’t be limited to report cards. That’s why we regularly send updates to families, highlighting school successes, sharing important information about upcoming events, and keeping parents in the loop on school activities. This helps parents stay engaged and aware of everything happening within our school community.
  4. Parent Committees
We encourage parents to get involved in shaping the direction of our school by joining our Family Advisory Committee and subcommittees. Parents’ input is incredibly valuable in making decisions that impact the whole school community. These committees provide a great opportunity for families to have a direct hand in shaping their child’s educational experience.
  5. Surveys
To ensure we are continually meeting the needs of our families, we regularly survey parents to gather feedback on their experiences and monitor their satisfaction. This data is crucial in helping us identify areas for improvement so we can adjust our strategies to better support our students and their families.

At Des Moines Prep, we never underestimate the importance of parent involvement. When parents are actively engaged, students have the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and personally. Together, we can create a positive and impactful experience for every student.
